When Xie Ce was about to finish school, Yin Mingyu brought Jin’er and Yin’er to the main courtyard.
As soon as she entered the warm room, Old Madam Xie pointed to the two tables on the warm kang and said, “We have prepared this for you a while ago.”
Yin Mingyu glanced and saw that the pens, ink, paper and inkstone were all placed exactly the same on the two kang tables facing each other. It really seemed that they treated her and Xie Ce equally and they were going to do homework together.
She took off her shoes, entered the kang, chose a table facing Old Madam Xie, and then asked Jin’er and Yin’er to stack the “account books” into two piles and place them in the middle of the table. She then took out a book and spread it out on the table.
Old Madam Xie did not hear the sound of her fiddling with the abacus, but she turned a blind eye and ignored her.
A quarter of an hour later, Xie Ce came back. When he saw that his mother really came to “do homework” with him, he happily climbed onto the warm kang.
Old Madam Xie scolded: “Your mother is right here, why are you so anxious?”
Xie Ce smiled foolishly and bowed to his great-grandmother obediently, but his eyes were fixed on the other empty table on the kang. It was obvious that at this moment, “doing homework together” with his mother was much more attractive to him than his great-grandmother.
If he stared widely at Yin Mingyu, Old Madam Xie was getting jealous again, but he was staring at the table, so Old Madam Xie could only laugh and said, “Go quickly.”
Xie Ce sat down behind the table on the kang and shouted excitedly, “Mother!”
Yin Mingyu rested her elbows on the table, looked up from behind the account book, and smiled at him, “Practice calligraphy quickly.”
“Alright!”
Xie Ce agreed promptly, then picked up the pen and began to draw seriously.
Yin Mingyu hid behind the “account book” and continued to read. Old Madam Xie closed her eyes and rested. Only the occasional sound of turning pages could be heard in the warm room.
After a while, Xie Ce raised his head, stretched his neck to look at her, and asked, “Mother?”
Yin Mingyu raised his head and glanced at Old Madam Xie. Seeing that she seemed to be asleep, she replied softly, “En?”
Xie Ce’s face was full of confusion, “You’re not going to write?”
Yin Mingyu relied on his young age, tapped his head with one finger, and said, “Mother is smart, she figured it all out in her head, and it was done in one stroke.”
Xie Ce opened his eyes wide in surprise, “Really?”
Yin Mingyu held up the blank booklet she had prepared in advance and showed it to him, saying confidently, “It will be full in a moment.”
“Wow——” Xie Ce’s innocent eyes were filled with admiration.
Old Madam Xie, who was resting with her eyes closed, showed a trace of speechlessness on her face, but did not say anything.
Yin Mingyu had no shame at all, and even said to Xie Ce righteously: “Focus more, do you want to lose to your mother?”
Children should not be provoked. Xie Ce immediately started writing very seriously, and his little mouth even pouted slightly because of his excessive seriousness.
Yin Mingyu lowered her head again and looked at the “account book” carefully.
